Taking the reins of the next Fluid Funk instalment is Johannesburg-based house producer KaySoul, a name who’s been making waves in the scene through labels such as Shall Not Fade and Dirt Crew. Architect of a sound both inherently bouncy and dependably functional, bending the curve betwixt afro-futuristic motifs and no-nonsense jacking house vibrations, KaySoul takes us on a funky ride with his “Click EP”, loading up elements of muscular bass music alongside torrid backroom ambiences.

Boosted on gristly, ovoid subs set to steady pressure mode, the lead-single “Click” feat. vocalist LYMA injects the Afro-house genre with a healthy dose of playfulness and processed pizzazz, while maintaining an openly soulful, Chicago-styled approach to the paradigm thanks to LYMA’s seamlessly integrated vocal swagger. A more jagged slice of future-facing house business, “Of Yore” pulls out a seriously fiery mix of blazing basslines and trampling kick-snare combo going straight for the jugular.

Adding his spin to the latter with a laid-back, escapistic impersonation, Uzu Moon has us floating in an ethereal yet dynamic haze of pastel-brushed synth tapestries and LA beat/UK liquid jungle-informed rhythmic salvos, woven along mangled vocal stabs straight out a Sepalcure-esque, breaks-fuelled dream sequence. Topping off that bumpy sonic hike, KaySoul joins forces with Kurtx on the jolting “Gershwin”, fusing P-funk-ian keyboard oddity with an emphatically lurching cosmo-bop kind of swing that promises to have everyone on their knees.
